The objectives of the programme
- To produce a competent Meteorological Technician who is able to undertake basic maintenance of weather instruments, observe weather elements, prepare weather reports, undertake data quality control, analyze, transmit and contribute to the forecasting process.
- To produce Meteorological Technicians with high level of skills, competency and right attitude to serve in Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) and other related sectors of the economy.
- To produce meteorological technicians who can undertake research.
- To prepare meteorological technicians for further studies in meteorology and other disciplines.
Diploma in Meteorology has been rebranded to Diploma in Meteorology and Climate Sciences and content revised to suit the current weather and climate needs. It is very comprehensive in order to maintain World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards as well as market forces. After successful completion of this course a student may be employed in different fields such as meteorology, aviation, agriculture, disaster preparedness and risk management, water and environment, Air forces, consultancies, construction, among others
Direct entry:
- Applicants seeking admission through this scheme must have obtained;
- Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five (05) passes two of which must be in Mathematics and English; and
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least One (01) Principal Pass in either Physics or Mathematics and Two (02) Subsidiary Passes from science subjects taken at Principal Level obtained at the same sitting. For purposes of computing entry points, the advanced level subjects shall be classified as follows:
- Essential subjects – Mathematics and Physics
- Relevant – Geography, Economics, Chemistry, Biology
- Others – General Paper and any other subject done
- Certificate entry:
- Applicant should possess Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five (05) passes two of which must be in Mathematics and English; and
- At least a credit Certificate in either Meteorology or any other physical science field that is nationally recognized.
All fees are paid to the bank onto the school account as indicated in the admission letter.
Application form can be downloaded here or accessed from the Academic Registrar’s office at the institute. The filled form and a paid up bank slip for application fee are then submitted to the office for processing.
